Fleas

 Fleas – tiny but dangerous!
flea

There are many different types of fleas but for this purpose we will generalize.

Adult fleas are blood sucking insects and their bites can irritate & become infected. The flea uses its jaws to cut through the skin and then sucks out blood from the victim. The female lays oval shaped eggs after her meal of blood. After they cocoon themselves, they can lie dormant for several months before hatching. Vibrations such as footsteps or carbon dioxide from their victims can prompt adult fleas to emerge from their cocoons. This is why you may be bitten after entering a house which has been closed up for a while.
